Paul J. Berggreen, M.D., serves as the Chief Strategy Officer of The Specialty Alliance and is the Founder and President of Arizona Digestive Health, the largest gastroenterology group in the western United States and a founding member of GI Alliance. A practicing Board Certified Gastroenterologist in Phoenix since 1993, Dr. Berggreen brings decades of clinical and leadership experience to his role, guiding the organization’s strategic initiatives focused on advancing physician-led specialty care.
Previously, Dr. Berggreen served as Chief Strategy Officer for GI Alliance, where he played a pivotal role in developing data-driven strategies, integrating clinical operations, and promoting innovation across the organization’s national network. He also served as site director of the University of Arizona/Phoenix VA GI Fellowship Program for 16 years, mentoring the next generation of gastroenterologists.
Dr. Berggreen has held multiple executive roles within the Digestive Health Physicians Association (DHPA), a national not-for-profit political advocacy organization representing more than 2,300 gastroenterologists and their patients. He currently chairs DHPA’s Data Analytics Committee, reflecting his long-standing commitment to leveraging data to enhance patient outcomes and optimize care delivery.
Driven by a passion for improving patient communication and care coordination, Dr. Berggreen led the Chronic Care Management initiative within GI Alliance and frequently speaks nationally on healthcare data and its practical applications. He also serves as an advisor to Gastro GPO and has held positions on the Medical Advisory Board of AmSurg.
Dr. Berggreen earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University Medical School in New Orleans, completed his internal medicine residency at Good Samaritan Medical Center, and his gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Arizona/Phoenix VA Medical Center.
